Why do others join?

"I joined because I wanted to have a connection to other people who
are dedicated to music education. Through MENC, I have learned wonderful
lessons from experienced teachers and fellow students."

    Kate Fahey (former secretary)

"I joined because I thought it would be a valuable resource in gaining information and ideas for teaching music.  It turns out that I was right- we have workshops with various professionals in the field, and presentations of mini-lessons to use in the classroom.  We also receive publications that are extremely helpful and deal with multiple topics with our membership, and discounts on seminars and workshops."

    Kate Hudson (former vice president)

"I first joined and continue to join because it keeps me serious and constantly thinking about my future profession of teaching.  There are also two great benefits of MENC... the magazine subscriptions and the direct teaching/learning experiences gained from working with real students and other music educators."

    Matt Schrack (former historian)

"I joined because it sounded like a good idea when I was a freshman.  Then I found out that it was not only beneficial to my career but also helpful and fun."

    Chris Metzger (former president)

Why would you want to join MENC?

“Am I ready for the challenges of a new year?”  You are most likely asking yourself this question as you begin the 2005-2006 school year.   Hundreds and thousands of teachers each year ask themselves the same question.  More than 90,000 music educators will answer “yes” to this question because they are members of MENC: The National Association for Music Education.

MENC members know they have all of the support and resources they need to meet the challenges they will face each year as they teach in public, private, and parochial schools worldwide.  As a collegiate member of MENC, you can take advantage of these resources to help you prepare for the challenge of entering a career in music education.

Collegiate members will experience a host of benefits including monthly magazines featuring articles on the latest trends and events affecting music education, discounts on resources purchased from MENC, substantial discounts on state and national conference registration fees, and opportunities to discover new teaching methods and techniques, expand your network of professional contacts, enhance credentials on your résumé, develop leadership skills, and gain insight into the professional world.

Lebanon Valley College’s chapter of MENC has an exciting year ahead, offering many opportunities for leadership and professional growth.  We will be hosting monthly workshops and guest speakers on a large variety of topics in the realm of music, as well as the third annual LVC Middle School Band Festival.  We also participate in programs such as Music In Our Schools Month and SPSEA’s Children’s Day festival.   Collegiate members of MENC are automatically members of PCMEA, the collegiate division of the Pennsylvania Music Educator’s Association and will be able to attend this year’s PMEA conference for a reduced fee.
