MENC joined with four other music organizations on campus to host a

3/17/05 -
Shadowing Day was a Success
On March 15th and 16th, twenty high schoolers from
around the area visited the LVC campus. On these days, the high school
students shadowed an LVC student to find out what college classes are
really like. All the participants in this year's event enjoyed
Shadowing Day and were very impressed with what out Music Department
had to offer. Thank you to all the people who helped out to make this
happen. And a special thanks to Trevor Peters and Chris Metzger for
chairing the event.

3/18/03 - MIOSM Programs
As many of you know, March is Music-In-Our-Schools
Month . In honor of this, MENC is sponsoring two programs
aimed to advocate music.
New this year is the first annual Music Education Career
Shadowing program. On March 27 and 28, 2003, local high school
students will be visiting LVC's campus for the day to get a small taste
of the life of a music education major. Interested high school
students are paired with music education students at LVC. They
will "shadow" a student for the entire day, observing all of his or her
classes, and even getting a preview of the
college dining experience. The chapter of MENC is very excited
about this
event, and hopes it will become a regular part of its annual programs.
For elementary school students, MENC is sponsoring the
annual poster contest. Students in local elementary schools were
asked to design a poster depicting different ways to "Connect with
Music," this year's theme for MIOSM. Posters will be judged by
the MENC members, and prizes will be awarded. Check back here at
the end of the month to view the winning posters.

9/16/02 - First Meeting Held on 9/9
A week ago on Monday, the first MENC meeting of the
2002-2003 school year was held in room 22 of the Blair Music
Center. There was a total of 42 people in attendance at the
meeting, 23 who were new to the MENC organization.
The meeting began with introductions. The officers
introduced themselves to the rest of the organization. Then, each
member, both old and new, introduced him or herself. Treasurer,
Shawn Fies, then explained the necessary steps to becoming a member of
MENC. See the Join MENC section of this
web page for more information. Next the officers gave a summary
of the activities that the organization would be involved with for the
school year. Finally, periodicals were distributed, and a few
positive general remarks were made.
The first meeting was definitely a success. The
new group seemed ready to face the challenges of a new year. We
are all looking forward to our first fall workshop, to be held on
September 23 in Miller Chapel. There will be a short business
meeting following the workshop to
sign up for help for the PMEA District 7 conference. For full
