LVC Middle School Band Festival

Have you ever took into consideration the amount of time it takes to plan a successful concert? Performers of all ages, from elementary school to the professional world, spend hours of practice and rehearsal time, refining their music to a performance-worthy level. This is the way performance is done. It is also the way in which most school music curriculums work. The students meet several times a week for a few months, and then put on a concert, once the music is ready. The LVC Middle School Band Festival (formerly known as Reading Day) turns this whole method upside down. Every year, students from local music programs are invited to participate in this program. Interested students arrive at LVC's campus early one morning. They spend the day preparing music in an intense rehearsal situation. Then, in the evening of that day, they put on a concert of the music on which they have spent the day working. The LVC Middle School Band Festival takes a process of months, and packs it all into one day. The results of this are amazing.

Renova Center Visit

Every year, MENC takes a trip down to the Renova Center, of Lebanon, PA, an assisted living facility that houses about twenty-five mentally and/or physically challenged patients. Members of the organization sing carols and make cards for the patients.

Our chapter of MENC has a broad range of musical talent, from keyboard players, to vocalists, to instrumentalists of any kind. We are all heavily involved with the music program, and are some of the best here at LVC. If you would be interested in having us perform at your business, hospital, church, or school function, don't hesitate to contact us. We would be glad to serve you. If you would like to arrange such a performance, e-mail our President, Chris Metzger .

Music-In-Our-Schools Month Activities

Did you know that March is known as Music-In-Our-Schools month?  During the month of March every year, MENC sponsors programs aimed a music advocacy using the theme "Music: Pass It On!"

LVC's chapter of MENC annually sponsors the MIOSM poster contest.  Each year, the chapter picks a topic related to the theme of "Music: Pass It On"  Local elementary school students then design posters to fit the topic.  A committee of students in MENC then judges the posters, and awards prizes.

In addition to the poster contest, MENC will be sponsoring a music major shadowing program this year.  This program allows high school students interested in pursuing a degree in music education to shadow a major for a day.  Specific information about this program will be available soon.

Music Department Picnic

At Lebanon Valley College, our music students and faculty work very hard during the school year.  One of the rewards for this work is the annual music department picnic, sponsored by MENC.  This picnic, which takes place during lunchtime of jury day, allows students and faculty to celebrate and reflect on the past school year.  Please contact President Chris Metzger with any questions.
